U.S. strikes on Kharg Island in Iran: Claims total obliteration
President Donald Trump made an announcement on Friday, 13th March. He declared that the US forces had "obliterated" (complete destruction) military targets on Iran's Kharg Island (Iran's crown jewel).

Later, Trump wrote on social media, "I have chosen NOT to wipe out the Oil Infrastructure on the Island. However, should Iran, or anyone else, do anything to interfere with the Free and Safe Passage of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider.", he continued, “Iran has NO ability to defend anything that we want to attack — There is nothing they can do about it!”.
He informed that the U.S. Navy would start escorting tankers through the straits “very soon” to restore oil exports as he struggles to tackle soaring U.S. gas prices.
In addition he added, the United States Central Command executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the History of the Middle East. At the moment, there is no proving evidence for the same.
“Iran had plans of taking over the entire Middle East, and completely obliterating Israel. JUST LIKE IRAN ITSELF, THOSE PLANS ARE NOW DEAD!" said the president.
NO DAMAGE, IRANIAN MEDIA INFORMED
No oil infrastructure was damaged during the U.S. strikes on Kharg Island, Tehran’s crude export hub in the Gulf, Iranian media reported on Saturday (March 14, 2026).
“A direct strike would immediately halt the bulk of Iran’s crude exports, likely triggering severe retaliation in the Strait of Hormuz or against regional energy infrastructure,” J.P. Morgan said.
Iranian strikes have cause interruption in the maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz — through which a fifth of global crude oil and LPG normally pass — and have also impacted oil infrastructure in other Gulf states.
Iran’s semi-official news agency reported, quoting sources, that more than 15 explosions were heard on Kharg island during the US attacks.
The sources said the attacks targeted air defences, a naval base, and airport facilities, but caused no damage to oil infrastructure. Iran’s news agency reported thick smoke was seen rising from the island
IRAN'S RESPONSE
The strike though, has evoked no response from Iran, with a bulk of Tehran's crude exports facing an immediate stop. It is likely to trigger "severe retaliation in the Strait of Hormuz or against regional energy infrastructure", JP Morgan warned.
Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf had earlier said Iran "will abandon all restraint" if the islands come under attack and said Trump will be responsible for "the blood of American soldiers".
Iran, in turn, threatened on Saturday to reduce US-linked oil facilities to “a pile of ashes” if oil structures on the island were attacked, as the US-Israel war on Iran, now in its third week, spilled a global oil price crisis already in the making.
Concluding, Iran has continued to launch widespread missile and drone attacks on Israel and neighboring Gulf States. Yet, there are no doors to the conflict involving the United States, Iran and Israel. This conflict has brought rapidly growing instability across the Gulf and has also caused an alien interruption in the maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz (the critical waterway through which one-fifth of the world's traded oil passes).
