Noida Workers’ Protest Turns Violent Over Wages: Fires, Stone Pelting Reported

Violence ignited in Noida after a labor protest- demanding for increase in wages, less working hours & better working conditions. The protest began in Noida on Monday, 13 April 2026, and turned violent as the protesters set fire to vehicles including a van and pelted stones at buildings, damaging the property.

The protesting workers spoke to media about how they struggle and suffer to make ends meet.

WHY ARE THE WORKERS PROTESTING?

Most of the protesters questioned how can they can survive with just ₹15,000 per month, specially when the expenses are rising.

They demanded:
  • Minimum wage of 20,000 per month
  • An 8-hour work day instead of 10-12 hours shift
  • Proper overtime pay and better working conditions
One of the protesters said to the media that, "We are just asking for two things- overtime pay and a minimum wage of ₹20,000 a month. We aren't given meals at proper time and there is no safety for women."

Another protester said, "We are not able to make our ends meet. How will we bring up our children?"

Growing frustration and dissatisfaction in the workers led to escalating aggressive leading to congested roads, damaged properties, and stone pelting.

WHAT TRIGGERED THE PROTEST?

The protest gained momentum after neighboring Haryana increased minimum wages for unskilled and semi-skilled workers by around 35%.

Under the revised structure:

  • Unskilled workers earn approximately ₹15,220 per month
  • Semi-skilled workers earn around ₹16,780 per month

This made the Noida workers question, why they don't deserve a salary hike.

GOVERNMENT'S RESPONSE

Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, said every worker will surely get a respectable salary, a safe working environment and basic facilities. He directed the state labor department to initiate talks with local authorities and industrial units to follow labor law and resolve the issues raised by the protesters.

Akhilesh Yadav, the president of Samajwadi Party (Opposition) criticized and held BJP responsible and fully accountable to what happened in Noida.

He accused the BJP of doing injustice and added that, the anger of workers can lead to the end of BJP's rule in UP in the upcoming assembly poll.

POLICE'S ACTION

The senior police stated that the situation is under control and being kept under continuous surveillance and minimum force is being used wherever necessary to maintain law and order.

Delhi Police has also heightened security with barricades, additional forces to prevent any spillover and also to ensure that no anti-social elements enter the city under the disguise of the protest.
